A marquee touring musical needed a signature pop-up performer lift re-created to an exacting standard - high-speed, high-performance and safe to put a performer on, night after night - with its turntable and sunroof built into the one machine.

MJ The Musical hinges on a signature effect: a performer rising from below stage like a piece of toast. Re-creating it meant building a pop-up lifting machine that is fast, smooth and precise - and that puts a performer in the air to a cue, night after night, without a moment of doubt.
That is a hard brief. High speed and high performance pull one way; the automated safety, accuracy and repeatability a live musical demands pull the other. The machine had to satisfy both, and had to carry its own turntable and sunroof inside the one mechanism, with the automation control running the whole effect.
The task was clear: engineer a lift that exceeds the performance requirement, build in the safety so the effect is never a risk, and integrate it so the whole stage moves as one show.
The centre of the job was the toaster lift itself. TSA re-created the pop-up lifting machine as a custom high-speed, high-performance servo-driven belt lift - designed, machined and assembled in-house. Automated safety features are built into the mechanism, not bolted on after. The result is accurate, smooth and repeatable, and exceeds the client's performance requirement for the effect.
The lift is more than a platform. Its turntable and sunroof are built into the machine itself, and TSA engineered the automation control that runs the whole effect to a cue - so lift, turntable and sunroof lock together every performance. Closed-loop position feedback and integrated safety keep each move accurate and repeatable.
The toaster lift does what the production asked of it and more - fast, smooth and accurate, with the safety engineered into the machine so the effect is never a gamble. Its turntable and sunroof are part of the lift itself, and the automation control runs the whole effect as one show.
