What a capability audit is

One documented assessment
of the whole venue.

A capability audit is an engineered assessment of what your venue can do today - and what it would take to do more. We walk the building, map the stage systems you actually have - fly systems, rigging, hoists, drapes and track, automation and control - and establish what they can safely carry, fly and automate. It ends in a prioritised upgrade roadmap you can plan and budget against.

It is the scoping step before a fit-out, refurbishment or upgrade begins, carried by the same team that engineers and delivers venue installs. Load paths, interfaces and structural requirements are settled early, so clashes surface on the drawings - while the fix is still a change to a line, not a variation on site and lost dark days. It works as well for a hall that has run since the seventies as for a new build still on paper.

It is not a Venue Systems Health Check. The Health Check is a single-visit review of what you already have - a baseline asset register, a condition summary, the servicing and compliance gaps, and a prioritised action plan. The capability audit asks the forward question: what can this venue do, and what would it take to do more. One tells you where you stand; the other tells you where you could get to. Many venues run both.

    Every hoist, line set, track, grid, drape system and control desk on site - including the kit nobody has paperwork for.

    Condition & compliance

    Checked against the standards it should meet, so the roadmap starts from evidence - and flags where certification is due.

    Load paths, fixing points and supporting structure - the difference between what a bar holds now and what the roof would let you add.

Together they answer two questions - what can this venue do today, and what would it take to do more. The audit covers stage systems and the structure that carries them, not whole-building compliance.
A Venue Systems Health Check tells you the condition and compliance of what you have; a capability audit tells you what your venue can do and what it would take to do more. The Health Check is the certification product - graded findings, a Due-Diligence Level and a 12-month certificate for every load-tested chain hoist. The capability audit is the planning product - it examines the same systems through a forward lens and ends in a prioritised upgrade roadmap, not a certificate. Many venues run both: the Health Check to stand behind what is there, the audit to plan what comes next.

It is written to be read on both sides of the table: precise enough for your technical manager, clear enough for the board that approves the budget.
Both. In an existing venue the audit surveys the systems in place and the structure around them. On a new build or major refurbishment still on paper, the same discipline is applied to the drawings - load paths, interfaces and structural requirements coordinated early, where changes cost lines on a plan rather than variations on site.
Venue managers and technical managers use it as the working map of their building; boards, councils and finance committees use the roadmap as the evidence base for a funding decision. It is deliberately written for both - engineered findings underneath, sequenced priorities on top.
No. The roadmap is yours, and it stands on its own - you can put it to your board, your architect or your preferred contractor. Most venues do have us carry the priority items, because the team that audited the building already understands it, but the audit is the scoping step, not a contract for the rest.
