We've got your paperwork

FR is not forever.
The certificate proves it.

Send us the drape, or we come to you. We assess, treat and certify - the same in-house process we run on the soft goods we manufacture, applied to whatever IFR molton, wool serge, velvet or scrim you already have hanging. We apply treatment using FR that meets AS 1530 standards, by trained and competent technicians.

Treatment is not permanent. Plan for retreatment every 2-3 years, sooner for drapes that get washed, wet, stored damp or handled and re-hung often. The recommended next-treat date goes on the certificate, so you are not guessing - and a drape that has been wet is lapsed until it is re-treated. The stage drapes we supply ship certified from day one.

Treated Retreat due 2-3 Year cycle AS 1530
  • Certified day one. Every treated drape ships with a written, dated certificate confirming FR treatment was applied by a trained and competent technician.
  • Safe window, 2-3 years. Shorter for heavy use, moisture or cleaning - the certificate carries the next-treat date.
  • Lapse risk. Past the window, or after any wet event, the rating is unreliable until we retreat and recertify.
FR classes

Three classes.
Three sets of rules.

Every fire retardant stage curtain falls into one of three classes. The class decides how long the rating lasts, what you can do to the fabric, and how often it has to come back to us. Get it wrong and the certificate on the wall means nothing.

IFR is built into the fibre and is permanent. DFR is a durable treatment that survives a set number of wash cycles before retreatment. NDFR is a surface coat that degrades with moisture. All three meet AS 1530 standards.

IFR · inherently fire retardant

Built into the fibre. Permanent.

The FR chemistry is engineered into the fibre during manufacture, so it cannot wash out, spray off or degrade with moisture. IFR molton, Trevira CS, wool serge and most theatre-grade velvets sit here. Specify IFR up front and the lifetime cost drops - there is no retreat cycle to fund.

DFR · durable fire retardant

Treated. Survives the wash.

The fabric is bathed in a durable chemistry that bonds into the weave and holds through a defined number of wet-cleaning cycles before retreatment. Most cotton velours, drills and RevPro blockout end up here. Audit-friendly, but the cycle count is finite and the certificate names it.

NDFR · non-durable fire retardant

Surface coat. The most fragile.

A topical flame-retardant coat applied to fabrics that will not take a durable treatment. Fast and certifiable, and the least forgiving: if the drape gets wet, stored damp or cleaned, the rating is gone. Turo molton and budget-grade scrims typically run NDFR. Retreat after any moisture event.

Not sure which class your drapes are? Send us the stock or the old certificate and we will confirm the class, apply FR treatment that meets AS 1530 standards, and put the retreat date in writing. Or browse the full soft-goods range. How the treatment is applied at the bench, and which fabrics take which class, is set out on the Reveal Productions fire treatment page.

The bits people always ask.

If we missed yours, send it through. We'll get back to you.

Typical turnaround is 1-2 weeks from drape arrival to certified return. Larger jobs or peak audit periods may push longer - tell us the deadline when you enquire and we'll work backwards from it.

Yes. We treat and retreat drapes regardless of who supplied them. Bring the existing certificate if you have it - we use it as a baseline. If there's no paperwork, we assess the fabric, advise on suitability, and treat from there.

The certificate names the specific drapes treated (description, dimensions, quantity), confirms FR treatment meeting AS 1530 standards was applied by a trained and competent technician, and records the treatment date and the recommended retreatment window. It's the document your fire officer, insurer, or auditor will ask for.

Plan for retreatment every 2-3 years. The window shortens for drapes that are washed, hit by moisture, stored damp, or used heavily. We note the recommended next-treat date on the certificate.

Both. Smaller jobs come into our Melbourne workshop for immersion treatment. For installed stock that can't be removed, we can spray on site. We'll recommend the right approach based on fabric, quantity, and access.

No. The treatment is checked for hand and finish before the drape leaves the workshop. Colour, drape weight, and acoustic behaviour stay as supplied.
